17 May
We start at a leisurely pace, and decided to take a Hop on Hop off tour of Rome. It was raining off and on, so instead of hopping off we stayed on the whole circuit. There were a lot of people trying to do the same thing, so we were glad we started on the 9 am tour. About 2 hours later we hopped off at the beginning which is 2 blocks from our hotel. It was time to make some adjustments to our gear, as it had pretty much stopped raining and a pit stop was also necessary.
The afternoon was spent seeing things that we don't think are on the official tour tomorrow. We went to Trivi fountain and the Spanish steps, plus we saw several obelisks which are located throughout old Roma. I have no idea how much we walked around the various sites, but it was a lot. Unfortunately my pedometer broke before we left GR, so I won't be able to provide foot mileage. (I hope this doesn't disappoint too many people). I also found out that it costs E2 (that's 2 euros Mom which equates to about $2.60) to mail a post card. Plus the only place you can buy stamps is at the Postal and there's always a line during business hours.
This evening at 1645 we have a Welcome meeting with light dinner. I think Roger and I are going to try to catch the last bus tour around old Roma this evening.
We're working on our connectivity. The good news is that both of our devices finally got charged. I brought the right adaptors for the plugs but the first evening nothing charged. I had both the Nexus and iPad plugged in overnight and we barely had any charge. Readjusting the plugs to different outlets seemed to work, even though the first set of plugs indicated that we had electricity. The Roman Gods of charging seemed to be with us last night.
